We all need some extra support from time to time.

However, it can be very daunting to reach out and make that first phone call.  

Research shows that the relationship between therapist and client is the most important factor in successful psychotherapy. I hope that my warm welcome for you will help you begin your journey of exploration and change.

You may not know exactly what is wrong. You may be feeling anxious and depressed. Perhaps there are other issues in the background. This can result in unhappiness and self-doubt, affecting your confidence.

You can phone to make an initial appointment. At our first appointment I will listen to the main issues that are troubling you. This is a chance for us to explore, without obligation, if we would like to work together. 

If we decide to continue, we then agree outcomes and make arrangements for further sessions. Sometimes six weeks is enough to resolve issues. Sometimes people need longer to explore issues in more depth. You get to choose.

Working with young adults over 16 years is a special interest. I enjoy working as a counsellor in NUIG Student Counselling Service.

Young people are suffering from anxiety and depression at unprecedented levels. Self harm, eating disorders and pornography addiction are growing problems.

The good news is that young people are resilient and open to change once they get appropriate help.

Talking to a trained listener can make all the difference, preventing further problems in the future.

Young people are under more pressure than ever from their peers, from technology and the fast pace of modern living. Fear of judgement can make it difficult for them to open up to their parents.

Having a safe place to talk about what’s really going on, and to experience being listened to without judgement can change a young person’s life forever.

Patterns are laid down for life during early formative years as the brain continues to grow and develop until age 25. So it makes sense to equip young people with good mental health and coping mechanisms to achieve their goals and fulfil their potential.

WHAT IS INTERNAL FAMILY SYSTEMS THERAPY?

Have you ever felt torn in two? Feeling conflicted because you’re doing something you know isn’t good for you but can’t seem to stop.

Everybody has parts, it is normal to have different parts inside you. Sometimes parts work together smoothly, sometimes not, depending on what you’ve gone through in your life.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) describes your inner world as being like a family. Like any family, parts don’t always get along with each other. Internal conflict can lead to behaviours that cause trouble when done to excess e.g. eating, drinking, shopping, working, gambling or pornography.

IFS Therapy is not a Family System Therapy. It might be more helpful to leave out the word family and call it Internal Systems Therapy. 

IFS is a way of working internally, getting to know yourself, developing self-awareness, healing wounded parts and restoring harmony in your system by helping your parts work well together.

It puts you back in charge so that you can live with confidence, guided by curiosity and compassion for all your parts.

You have so many different parts to yourself and your life. A happy successful life begins with acceptance.

WHAT IS BIODYNAMIC MASSAGE THERAPY?

Using touch in a respectful and sensitive way, biodynamic massage helps calm the nervous system, producing deep relaxation.

As a trained biodynamic therapist, I am skilled in the therapeutic use of touch. From our first hours of life, we need touch to survive and thrive. Our need for safe and loving touch continues throughout our lives, helping to connect us to ourselves and others.

HOW BIODYNAMIC MASSAGE CAN HELP

Biodynamic massage therapy can be used on its own or with psychotherapy. It can help to calm the nervous system and release blockages that hold us back in our lives.

Touch is a profoundly important way to experience ourselves in connection with others. 

At times we can experience stress on a physical level e.g. fatigue, muscle aches, tension, digestive problems or as stress related symptoms such as headache, insomnia, anxiety and depression. Biodynamic massage can help to calm the nervous system at times of anxiety, stress and overwhelm.

By helping to restore the natural and spontaneous flow of life energy biodynamic massage and therapeutic touch enhances a sense of wellbeing and calm in a non-sexual and safe environment.
